Scottish Championship 2013 - 2014

spfl logoThe threat of the First Division clubs breaking away to form a second tier of the Scottish Premier League proved sufficient to persuade 23 of the 29 eligible SFL members to vote in favour of the SPL's merger plan (22 votes were required for the proposal to be carried). There will now be play-offs between the second and first tier and a larger share of TV revenues will be passed to the second tier clubs.

Although presented as a merger, the vote effectively means the end of the Scottish Football League after 123 years.

Away

Designer: Pendle

Sponsor: Marshall Construction

Alloa appear in the second tier thanks to the play offs and have returned to hooped shirts this season. The style is reminiscent of that worn in the post war period and not seen for a very long time so we are pleased about that. Typically Pendle have added grace notes in the form of additional sleeve trim and so forth. The away strip is retained from last season and updated with the new shirt sponsor.

Away

Designer: Puma

Sponsor: Kilmac Energy

Relegated from the SPL last season, Dundee are in need of investment but an offer from the US based Keyes Capital group has caused a split in the boardroom.

The new strips feature Puma's latest collar design and according to some supporters, is "ok from the nipples down." The choice of light blue for the away strip would not be accepted in England but Scottish officials seem to take a more sensible approach.

The latest Puma template looks rather smart in Falkirk's traditional navy and white with red detailing. Elements of the home and away strips are interchangeable. The yellow and navy third strip is retained from last season.

Morton's home strip is unchanged aside from the fact that the shorts no longer have stripes down the side. This is now complemented by an all-black alternative. The white third strip will be useful at Dundee and Falkirk.

Here at HFK we do like a well-designed retro kit so we are quite pleased with Raith's new home strip, which re-creates their iconic outfit from 50 years ago and worn until 1972. The red change strip is unchanged.
